Rooney’s Unexpected Underwater Encounter

Imagine diving into the depths of the ocean, expecting to see an octopus, only to be greeted by something completely different. That’s exactly what happened to BC diver John Rooney and his friends on a recent dive. And luckily, they caught the whole encounter on camera!

Meet the Stellar Sea Lions

Instead of finding the elusive octopus, Rooney and his buddies came face to face with Stellar sea lions. These majestic creatures are not only massive (some weighing as much as 450 kg!), but they are also incredibly playful.

A Playful Interaction

The sea lions seemed to be in the mood to play and interact with the divers. They even went as far as nibbling on one diver’s fin, almost like a friendly dog. Rooney described the experience as pure joy, with no hint of aggression from the sea lions.

Despite their size and strength, the sea lions’ behavior towards the divers was gentle and curious. In fact, their skeletons are so similar to grizzly bears that they weigh more than them!

Next time you’re out diving, keep an eye out for these amazing creatures. Who knows, you might just be lucky enough to have a playful encounter with them like Rooney and his friends did!
