Shocking News About Canada’s International Reputation

Hey there, young readers! Have you ever wondered how Canadians feel about our country’s reputation on the global stage? Well, Nick Nanos has been tracking this for a whopping 18 years, and he’s got some eye-opening news to share!

For the past year, only a mere 4% of Canadians believe that our international reputation has improved. Yes, you heard that right – less than one out of every 20 people think things are looking up for Canada. Another 6% feel that it’s somewhat better, but here’s the kicker – more than two out of every three Canadians say it’s actually gotten worse. Yikes!

And who can forget our friend Donald Trump? He’s been taking shots at us on the global stage, calling us his favorite punching bag. Every time he mentions tariffs, Canada seems to be at the top of his list. Not a great look for our reputation, right?

Worst Score on Record

Believe it or not, this is the worst score on record for our international reputation in the past 18 years. It’s even lower than when Stephen Harper was in his last year as prime minister. Ouch!

Harper focused more on domestic politics during his time in office, but these numbers don’t paint a pretty picture. It’s like looking at the numbers before a team loses – not a good sign.

Justin Trudeau tried to boost our standing by engaging with international leaders and re-engaging with organizations like the United Nations. However, tensions with India and China, as well as a bumpy relationship with the new US Administration, have left things…well, let’s just say not so great.

With the three biggest economies causing us some trouble, it’s clear that our international reputation could use a little boost. So, young readers, let’s keep an eye on how Canada’s image evolves in the coming years and see if we can help turn things around!
