Get Ready to Kick 2021 in the Nuts: Matt’s Plan to Read More Books

(gentle upbeat music) Hey there, lovely Indian readers! So, let me paint you a picture of my new Aussie adventure. After sneaking out of America last December, Nat and I have been chilling in a cozy apartment in Sydney, surrounded by friends and family. But guess what? We discovered that our new pad is right next to a bat feeding ground. Yep, you heard that right! (eerie music) Uh, nope. Looks like I won’t be going out at night anytime soon, thanks to those bat screeches. (eerie music)

A Habit Makeover for 2021

(gentle upbeat music) Now, let’s chat about a fresh start for 2021. It’s that time of the year when I reflect on my intentions and habits. Last year, like many of you, I let some good habits slip through my fingers – weightlifting, healthy eating, and meditation took a backseat. But the one thing I truly missed was reading. Books used to be my go-to for inspiration and relaxation before I dived into the world of YouTube.

Reading feeds my soul and sparks my creative fire. When I read a good book, I feel invigorated and ready to take on the world. But as a full-time content creator, I got sucked into the whirlpool of work and forgot the joy of reading. So, this year, I’m making a comeback to my reading habit.

The Plan to Make Reading Stick

I’ve decided to read two books a month to feed my curiosity and keep my mind sharp. Setting a specific goal is key to making a habit stick. Saying, “I will read more,” won’t cut it. I’ve chosen two books a month because it fits into what flow researchers call the flow channel – not too overwhelming and not too easy.

To make this habit rock-solid, I’ve crafted a plan. I’ve lined up the first six books I want to read, starting with “The War of Art” and ending with “Sapiens.” Planning ahead helps me keep the momentum going and takes the pressure off deciding what to read next.

Creating accountability is my secret sauce to sticking with my reading habit. I’ve made a public commitment here in this video, but you can find an accountability partner or join a club to keep you on track. Trust me, having someone ask you about your progress makes a world of difference.

And hey, if you want some extra help in building lasting habits this year, you can check out my Simple Habits course. It’s packed with actionable advice, resources, and a supportive community to cheer you on. Think of it as your habit makeover guide for 2021.
