Building Habits with Matt D’avella

Hey there, lovely readers! Today, I want to share with you a story that involves 12 months, 12 experiments, and a whole lot of self-discovery. So, let’s dive in!

The Journey Begins

About a year ago, I embarked on a mission to try out 12 thirty-day experiments, ranging from drinking more water to taking cold showers and counting calories. Each experiment delved into different areas of self-development that piqued my curiosity.

Little did I know how challenging this journey would be and how much it would teach me about forming habits. One thing I can say for sure is that breath work is no walk in the park. There are days when I just don’t feel motivated, and my mind comes up with a million excuses to skip my habits.

But, I’ve learned that making things as easy as possible and tackling the most challenging task first – like cardio for me right now – can set the tone for the rest of the day.

Lessons Learned

While my previous video covered some general insights from this experience, today I want to share actionable advice on how to make your personal habits stick. Stay tuned for my upcoming habit course for even deeper insights!

My journey into self-development began back in college, sparked by a desire to improve various aspects of my life. From gaining muscle at the gym to mastering personal finance and even stumbling my way into convincing my wife, Natalie, to marry me – it’s been a ride!

At first glance, you might think I’ve always had my act together, but the truth is, I was once a scrawny, awkward guy struggling with girls and money. However, my unwavering desire to better my circumstances propelled me forward.

Overcoming Challenges

Your past doesn’t define your future. Let go of any baggage holding you back, and embrace the journey of change. It’s never too late to rewrite your story and chase after your dreams.

As I immersed myself in self-development, devouring books, tapes, and videos, I discovered the power of taking action. Knowledge is great, but action is what leads to real transformation.

Creating Lasting Habits

Building habits and New Year’s resolutions can be incredibly tough, often leading to disappointment and setbacks. Wondering how I managed to cultivate habits successfully for a year? It boils down to one word: accountability.

By publicly committing to 12 thirty-day experiments, I held myself accountable to both me and my audience. The pressure to follow through and share my progress kept me going, even on the toughest days.

Sharing your goals with friends and family can also provide a powerful support system. Instead of criticism, you’ll receive encouragement and motivation to keep pushing forward.

The Power of Accountability

Whether it’s finding a gym buddy like Natalie or having an accountability partner, having someone to share your journey can make all the difference. They’ll push you when you’re feeling low and celebrate your wins with you.

Implementing the two-day rule, where I never took two days off in a row from my habits, helped me stay consistent and build momentum. Small, consistent actions pave the way for long-lasting habits.

Embracing the Journey

Remember, the journey of self-improvement is ongoing, filled with challenges and triumphs. Embrace each moment, learn from your failures, and keep showing up every day with a positive mindset.

Before I wrap up, I want to encourage you to join me in supporting Australia during these devastating fires. Your contribution, big or small, can make a significant impact. Let’s come together and help those in need.

Thanks for tuning in, and remember, your future is defined by the actions you take today. Keep pushing forward and watch yourself grow!

See you next time!
